This is the most common form of massage to be requested by clients. The overall goal of a relaxation massage is to help an individual relax especially if they are experiencing excessive stress or anxiety or other symptoms.
A relaxation massage is intended to promote general relaxation and improve an individual’s comfort. It can also help decrease body tension and help one’s mental well-being.
Deep Tissue Massage
With deep tissue massage, the primary aim is to relieve severe body tension within the muscles, connective tissue and the fascia. Deep tissue massage differs from relaxation massage in that the target is layer of muscles beneath the the top surface of muscles. Direct, deeper pressure is applied to the muscles either following or going across the muscle fibers or tendons.
For those seeking deep tissue massage, it is recommended that continuous massage, coupled with a stretching and/or exercise regimen, and postural improvements will improve the odds for better results.
Hot Stone Massage
The hot stone massage is a variation on the traditional relaxation massage, where the therapist uses stones (typically made of basalt) that are able to retain heat for a long period of time.
Prior to the massage the stones are heated in water, once heated the stones can be used for the treatment. The therapist can place the stones on specific points of the body to balance out the energy centers of the body. The stones can also be used to help the muscles relax, thereby allowing the therapist to apply deeper pressure, either by using the stones or simply the hands.
Apart from improving circulation in the body, hot stone massage can help promote deep muscle relaxation. Hot stone massage can be used to treat muscular pains, back pains, arthritis, osteoarthritis, insomnia, stress, anxiety, fibromyalgia.
